Research in the Baik Lab

The Baik Lab investigates how tissues sense and adapt to chronic low-oxygen conditions. Our work focuses on identifying novel regulators of hypoxia signaling and translating these discoveries into new insights into cardiovascular and cardiometabolic disorders.

In addition, our lab is interested in mechanisms of cardiovascular toxicities associated with novel cancer-directed therapies. These toxicities include hypertension, cardiomyopathy, and inflammatory heart disease. We are a core member of the INFLAME biobank at UCSF, which aims to identify biomarkers and novel mechanisms of disease pathogenesis.

Our research is funded by the NIH, Burroughs Wellcome Fund, American Heart Association, and the Harold Amos Award.
